Uh, oh! Randomities Won the Versatile Blog Award!

A while ago, Angela Perry bestowed me with the Versatile Blogger Award. This is one of my favorite awards, because it implies that your writing is not limited to a certain genre, voice or else. Thanks, Angela, for the honor!

Since the rules for this award became a bit confusing, I'll break my own rules and share a bit more of myself, but I'll not follow Angela's to the letter. (I have principles, you know? :P)

I'll stick to four random facts then:
  • I have recently moved across the ocean. That's why my tweets seem to come up so late, but I'm actually going to bed much earlier than when I was in Italy.
  • Most of you already know, but to my new friends I'm revealing that Mari Juniper is a pen name. As a former attorney I have this weird obsession about privacy, which is why I'm not telling anything else about the item above. Sorry?
  • Do you have a favorite writer? I do. It was Neil Gaiman's wonders that drew me to the writing career. Do I want to write like him? No, of course not. I want to write like myself, but I certainly want to write as well as he does. ;)
  • You know I have two dogs, right? If I could, I'd have three. No, four! Gee, My house would probably become a shelter... :P
Okay, breaking one's own rules is fun, but it's more fun to share the love! So, I'm sending the Versatile Blogger Award to:

>> Kevin Mackey, from KjM on the web.

>> Chuck Allen, from Chuck Allen

>> Sonia Lal, from Story Treasury

>> Helen Howell, from Helen Scribbles

There you go. Now go share the award love, my friends! :)

Uh, oh! Randomities Won the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award!

That's the yummier blog award Randomities has been graced with. Don't you feel hungry just by looking at it? I know I do!

Now, I don't know if I thank Angela Perry for the nice reminder, of if I go over there and kick her in the butt for trying to make me fat. Kidding! Thanks, Angela! I really appreciate (in many ways, I should add) your award.

As for the award rules, I'm going to comply this time:
1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
2. Share four guilty pleasures that you have.
3. Pass the award on to six blogs.

So, there I go sharing my pleasurable guilt with you:
  • This award's image got at me. Yes, I'm totally addicted to sugar, even though I'm aware that it's highly poisonous. I'm not talking only about our beloved chocolate, but also about good quality biscuits to go with coffee, cakes with tea, desserts, ice cream, pastries... Hmmm!
  • Wine. Oh, how I love good wine! Not in excess, of course, but in small amounts, with good food. Ahhhh! The taste of the wine itself is wonderful, and the combination with food is something different all together. Then you taste the food without the wine and it's yet another palative experience. And there's the dessert wine to go with all those wonderful sins I mentioned... Hmmm! (Gee, I'm hungry.)
  • There's no guilt in that, I love cooking for friends! I don't take as much pleasure in every day cooking, but even so it can be quite nice, depending on the day. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm no great cook! But I do manage. ;)
  • I love writing "bad people". The more wicked the greater the fun! Of course I take care to make them believable. (Hoping dearly that they are!) Talking about it, I'd like to direct you to a cool post on how to write good villains. It reflects my exact feelings about it. (Thanks Dani, for sharing it!)

And now to the fun part! I'm sending out some fattening love to these six irresistibly sweet bloggers:

--Danielle La Paglia, at Dani's Flash Fiction Blog

--Cecilia Dominic, at Cecilia's Random Writings

--Cathy Webster, at Life on the Muskoka River

--Kevin Mackey, at KjM on the web

--Sam Adamson, at Future Nostalgic

--Monica Marier, at Attack of the Muses

--Laura Eno, at A Shift in Dimensions

Finally, I'd suggest you got back to Angela's post and read her comment on SEO and love-spreading. She's got it all right! ;D

Uh, oh! Randomities Won a Bunch of Awards!

And I'm a slack, I know. All these came a long time ago; I mean, there's a summer blog award I haven't given away yet. C'mon!

Anyway, here where I stand the spring is starting to come out to smile at us, so I figured it was a good moment to send out flowers, warmth and writer-y thoughts. Of course, I'm putting aside all the blog rules, 'cause I'd like to go straight to the good part: spreading the love!

My dear twitter friend Monica Marier sent me the From Me to You Blog Award back in August, 2010 (uh) when the - as she describes it - Fail-tacular Odyssey of Thoki and Lor was only beginning. I'd sure check the story out if I were you. Be ready for a stomachace though, you won't be able to stop laughing!

Thanks, Mon!

I'm sending some nice early spring flowers to:

--Estrella Azul, at Life's a Stage: For her amazingly supportive friendship and all the awesome stuff she does. (see below)

--Anne Tyler Lord, at Don't Fence Me In: Because that's the only blog award that I don't see on her awards page yet! Plus, she's a dear friend who deserves the flowers.

--Vandamir, at Creating Shadows: She's an awesome writer who suffers from severe migraine and is having a hard time with her treatment. Here are my wishes for it to work out, and soon! Click here to check out the fantastic stories she has posted so far.

My friend Estrella Azul sent an award in my direction that I've always wanted here at Randomities: the Prolific Blog Award. The funny thing is that right after being awarded with it, Randomities went into a long hiatus that almost killed it again. I purposely waited to spread the prolific love because it'd make no sense to do so before things warmed up here again. ;P

Don't miss Estrella's home made stuff, her stories and some amazing writing advice she posted not long ago.

Thanks, Estrella!

I'm sending inspiring thoughts to these wonderful writers:

--John Wiswell, at The Bathroom Monologues: Man, talk about prolific! John has a monologue out almost every day, he's frequently getting short stories and flash fiction published and he's writing a novel. His stories are witty, funny and tought-provoking, and his comments on the blogs he visits often offer valuable feedback. Right Mr. Ogre? :)

--Marc Nash, at Sulci Collective: I've always admired Marc's writing, even though his style/genre is as antagonic of mine as it can be. Here's my appreciation of his litteracy and deeply engaging conversation.

--Cathy Webster, at Life on the Muskoka River: She just came out from her own writing hiatus, and her new stories are amazing! May you be even more prolific from now on, Cathy!

Yes, yes, I know seasonal blog awards are supposed to be delivered at their due season. (duh) But I have never been good with rules when it comes to blog awards, so I'm sending a wind of warmth to those who are still trapped in winter, and they can choose to follow the rules if they like, spreading summer love next summer.

Two lovely ladies sent out the Summer Blog Award my way, Anne Tyler Lord and Laura Eno. Anne is known for her wild, wild parties and for the thoughtful writing advice she gives through her @Writers_Life and Coffee Klatch. Laura is an outstanding writer whose awards actually hatch. If you didn't get curious about this incredibly creative and offten funny writer, I drop my case. Go visit them both! :)

Thanks Anne and Laura!

I'm sending summer warmth to some of the old and new friends I want to keep close by:

--Icy Sedgwick, at Icy's Blunt Pencil: I'll just quote Adam Byatt here: "A writer who balances darkness with wit and comic timing. And she's ace." Get the drill?

--Adam Byatt, at A Fullness in Brevity: It's the man himself. We have been bumping in each other on twitter for a while now, and he'd visit Randomities from time to time. I was (too) slow to realize what an incredible writer he is! His stories have a pace and quality that grab your heart from the beginning and won't let go even after the end. It's real life portrait in a sensitive, humorous and smart way.

--Rachel Blackbirdsong, at Ravenwood: Her stories as often as lyrical as her poems. They're also deep, funny and dark, and her comments are always thoughtful. I hope she won't mind the contrast this award will make with her dusky-looking blog. :P

--Catherine Russel, at Ganymeder: Cathy is one of the people who have been present and cheering for me even in my blog-y absence. She's been writing a most interesting series about a flesh-eating dwarf / human wedding. That king is up to no good, I say...

--Jodi Cleghorn, at In Black and White: As a super congratulations for the success of her latest anthology, Nothing But Flowers, Tales of Post-Apocaliptic Love! She's best known for her Chinese Whisperings and The Ying and Yang Book, which I suggest you also check out if you haven't heard of yet. These books feature several people I visit frequently (see sidebar) and other outstanding writers. Clicky, clicky! ;)

--Laurita Miller, at Brain Droppings: A last minute addition to warm-up a fantastic writer who'll be buried in snow for two more months. (uh) And she's shaving her head for the cancer cause. Why don't you drop by, read her awesome stuff, and make a donation? ;)

Now, to the awardees, if you're fond of rules, you can find them on the generous people's blogs who granted each award to Randomities. If not, enjoy the freedom of no rule awarding! ;D

Uh, oh! Randomities Won a Double Award!

The lovely - and now super-busy - Anne Tyler Lord granted Rantomities not one but two blog awards at once. Thank you so much Anne! :)

You all probably know by now that there are slightly different rules for each award, but they all encompass: 1) Thanking who awarded you, and 2) Passing it on to a certain number of  people, letting them know that you did so.

Well, since I am sort of a rebel when it comes to blog awards, I'm going to maintain the basic above and change (almost) all the rest.

I'm passing this double award to fewer people than the normal, and since I'm changing everything the only rule I'd like the following friends to keep is to pass these on together, as Anne and I did. Just to make things interesting. ;)

Most awards ask us to tell something about ourselves, so you can kill your curiosity at this old post and this other one. There's nothing new to tell, I'm afraid, except my reasons to keeping things for myself, if you didn't know them yet.

Now to the fun part, I'm passing on the double award to:

Uh, oh! Randomities Won the Sweet Blog Award!

In order to prevent another award withholding I'm posting this right away. See what a dutiful girl I've become? heh

Thank you Jemi, for this cute award. You're a sweetheart!

As per rules, to accept the Sweet Blog Award I should share seven things about myself, which I've already done. For these reasons I prefer to repeat myself over and over, I hope you don't mind. ;P

However, I'm most pleased to share the love with these sweet friends:
Please feel free to make your own rules girls, the important thing is to spread the love. :)

Uh, oh! Plethora of Awards at Randomities!

I have to confess something. I've always wanted to use the word "plethora" but I never had the chance before, so I kind of held out some of the award announcements for a while. :P

Well, this is partially true, since the Zombie Luv Contest kept me quite busy and the majority of them was granted during the crazy times in which I was evaluating or judging the entries.

Either way, sorry for the delay! This doesn't diminish by all means how much I appreciate the awards themselves and the lovely people who granted them to me. :)

The Fabulous Flash Award, was created by Jon M. Strother, the father of the #FridayFlash community. In his own words:

I have decided to start the Fabulous Flash Award to spotlight some folks I feel deserve recognition for their, well… fabulous flash fiction.”

Gracie Motley was the amazing writer who passed it on to me. She writes the most incredible dragon serials, Fire and Water, and some flash fiction that engrosses you up to the end, making you ask for more. She's also very supportive on her comments and a great person to chat with. Thank you Gracie for this great honor!

This award rules are simple:
  1. acknowledge receiving the award in a blog post
  2. link back to the person who awarded it
  3. select four other fabulous flashers to receive the award to keep spreading the joy
  4. write one or two short lines explaining why you’ve chosen each recipient
  5. optionally (I know not everyone is on Twitter) tweet, “I just gave the Fabulous Flash Award to (name). They’re worth reading.” Include a shortened URL back to your post in the tweet.
So to the fun part. I'd like to pass on this award to:
  • Jodi MacArthur -- This woman is creepy; she writes things that will make your hair stand up. She's not limited to the darker side of the human mind though, her humorous pieces are fantastic, her poetry is deep and moving, and now she's also into a dark mystery serials that I'm most curious about. Her voice is unique, her stories are original and well constructed, I'm sure we'll hear a lot about her in the future.
  • Ganymeder -- Catherine Russel has a fantastic sense of humor. See her last flash, Pirates Don't Play Easy that you'll understand. Her mastery in pacing carries you through the story at her will, releasing you only when she desires to. It's almost impossible to have the first reading of her writings with a critical mind; it's the reader in us that take over at first.
  • Tomara Armstrong -- I had noticed her writing before, but it was her entry to the Zombie Luv Contest, Three Steps, that showed me how exceptional her writing is. It was my winning choice for quite a while. Of course this is not her only great story, she easily strolls from gruesome, to lovely, and won't shy away of curious writing challenges, coming up with fantastic results.
  • Erin Cole -- She writes mystery and horror with exquisite word choice, trapping your attention with mastery. She has recently opened submissions to her macabre anthology, 13 Days of Horror. Check out the great array of writers she collected on the previous edition.

TheVersatile Blogger Award came from the awesome Valerie Valdes. Thanks! :D

She has two awesome ongoing web serials, and man, you have to check out her story that just came out at the Birdville Magazine!

Now, I'm not familiar with this particular award's rules, so I'm passing it on to a few people I believe deserve it:

Finally, the lovely Monica Marier is the one who granted me the One Lovely Blog Award. Thank you! :)

This award's rules are also simple, although more difficult to comply with:
1. Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award and his or her blog link.
2. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered.
3. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.
The solution for my dilemma was to acknowledge some great people I've met through the Zombie Luv Contest, so I'm passing the this award to these cool zombie folks I had the pleasure to meet through the contest: ;)
  • Angel Zapata, from A Rage of Angel (I hope you won't mind the pinkness of the award, Angel, considering the general tone of your blog. :P)
  • David Hernandez, from Dividing Canaan (Same pinkness comment goes to you too. ;P)
Ohh, I made it to 15 people, yay! Now, those who were tagged with excessive pinkness, I'll understand if you decide not to accept the award if it doesn't fit too well the visual of your blogs. I just ask you to bear in mind that roses have thorns and the background is grey, at least. ;)

Congrats everyone! :D

Uh, oh! Randomities Won the One Lovely Blog Award!

This is a very nice award, granted by Amy K. Nichols, who I'm happy to have met on Twitter.

It came incredibly timely, as I was musing on a way of welcoming some new twitter friends I've come to appreciate really fast.

I felt incredibly welcomed on Twitter, once I found out how to interact there that is, heh, so I wanted to spread this feeling around. There is no better opportunity than this. :)

So, to the fun part, I grant the One Lovely Blog Award to:
  1. Jodi MacArthur, of Fiction Writer - Jodi MacArthur
  2. Annie Syed, of Trial of Words: Writings and Fragments
  3. Valerie, of As the Moon Climbs
  4. Jeanne V. Bowerman, of ramblings of a recovering insecureaholic. A small confession here: I've known Jeanne for a while on twitter. She's the #twitterPIMPangel everyone talks about, and the incredibly cool moderator of #ScriptChat. Since I've found out about her blog only now, I gave myself the liberty to bend the rules a bit, heh. ;P
  5. Susan Bearman, of 2KoP: Two Kinds of People
  6. Kathryn Magendie, of Tender Graces
  7. Jim Wisneski, of writers 'n writers
  8. Estrella Azul, of Life's a Stage
  9. Margo Gremmler, of Margoblog
  10. Catherine Russel, of Ganymeder
  11. Barry Northern, of 21st Century Writer. Psst, check out his cool CYOA project - Choose Your Own Adventure. ;)
  12. Jem, of Jemfyr
  13. Claudia Hall Christian, of On a Limb With Claudia. I've also known Claudia for a while, but I just found out about her blog. She's the co-moderator of the incredibly educating and welcoming twitter chat #BookMarket, along with Carol Corbett. Must check out!
  14. Carrie, of Purelycarrie Blog
  15. Aindan Fritz, of Aidan Writes.
Whew, what a generous award! Finding fifteen new blogs to spread the love isn't as easy as it seems. Sorry folks, for the extra work I'm giving you with this thing. ;P

Just a final reminder, here are this award's rules:
1. Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award and his or her blog link.
2. Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered.
3. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

Uh, oh! Randomities Won a Creative-Creepy Blog Award!

Not that this is a creepy award by itself, but who awarded me is a horror writer, Jodi MacArthur. She gave it a chilly reading that was rather entertaining, so I decided to play along.

Thank you Jodi, for this fun award, and the twisted idea for theme, heh. ;D

Here are some facts about me that I'm supposed to share. This time I seriously doubt you'll guess what is true and what's not, but go ahead and give it a try.
  1. I have a gremlin. Not one of those cute fur balls, I'm talking about the post-water midnight thing.
  2. Do you know the movie Paranormal Experiences? Yeah.
  3. I have an insect-eating carnivorous pet that is not a pony, but it's creepy all the same. (Just to clarify, Jodi's Pony doesn't feed on insects. Well, that depends of one's point of view, really.)
  4. I've met vampires. Yes, I did use the plural here on purpose. I'm sorry to say that I didn't meet cool mermaids or fairies or unicorns, but the old cliché. I'm a bit worried after these encounters, as lately I've been less garlic-tolerant, the light hurts my eyes, and I feel sleepy in daylight. Should you fear meeting me in person?
  5. My skin is marked forever. It's blackened.
  6. I hear voices. They tell me to do bad things to people.
  7. I've once had a vision. A few weeks later it became true.
Now to the fun part. I'm going by the rules when I nominate seven bloggers for this award, but I'd like to propose a challenge of the sorts, hereby changing said rules just a bit. (see original below)

I dare the following bloggers to spread the chill. Make your lies and truths the more scary, ugly, grotesque as you can. Of course you don't have to, but I do dare you to, heh. ;P

Finally, the dreaded and mostly disrespected rules (at least by me, heh):
1. Thank the person who gave this to you.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you.
4. Tell up to six outrageous lies about yourself, and at least one outrageous truth – or – switch it around and tell six outrageous truths and one outrageous lie.
5. Nominate seven “Creative Writers” who might have fun coming up with outrageous lies.
6. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them.

Uh, oh! Randomities Won the Happy 101 Award!

My dear twitter friend Anne Tyler Lord, of the excellent Don't Fence Me In, sent me the best blog award ever: Happy 101 Award that stands for happiness and friendship. Thanks so much Anne! *hugs* :)

To receive this award I'm supposed to list ten things that make me happy, and pass it on to five people. I gladly comply:
  1. Friendship: This award is mostly about the warmth of fellowship. It makes me tremendously happy to make new friends, like the ones I'm sharing this prize with, and to be able to maintain old friendships that could cool down with distance or time. (hi Former-Witch! ;)
  2. Unconditional love: like the love we share with our pets, when we allow ourselves to. If you look at randomities' labels, you'll notice how much I dabble about my dogs, heh. Also, I'm lucky to have close friends who I love and am loved by unconditionally. This is a rare thing.
  3. Pretty things: It makes me happy to see, watch and listen to the wonderful things that we, humans, are capable of making. In my view, art is something meant to elevate us.
  4. The nature: It could fall into the pretty things category, but I think the nature deserves a topic for itself. It's astounding, isn't it? I'm always happy when hiking, climbing, swimming or just standing in a place untouched by man's crafty hands. The connection with the nature is inestimable.
  5. Reading: Another thing that is encompassed by the pretty things category, but stands out. It makes me tremendously happy to travel to other worlds, learn about other view points, muse on something, and everything else that the reading experience can render us.
  6. Food: Yeah, it's not just the endorphin of a good dark chocolate, heh, but the act of eating is highly pleasant, especially when accompanied by a good wine, in a table filled with friends.
  7. Writing: Obviously! To create things, is something amazing. When the characters, the story, or the ideas don't let me sleep until I've given them enough attention, I'm truly happy.
  8. Adventure: If you've peered into my profile, you know that already. I like highs, depths, speed, and even the surpassing of obstacles in life.
  9. Love, in the romantic sense: I love to love, and be loved back. Intensely. Those who have felt this know what I'm talking about. I'd never exchange a broken heart for safety. Life is not meant to be dull.
  10. Meditation: Like Anne, It makes me profoundly happy when I'm tranquil and balanced. To actually breathe helps a lot, and meditation is a good way of remembering how to do it.
Gee, I've been so reflexive lately! Wait and see, 'cause there's more stuff coming, heh.

Now let's go to the fun part! I'd like to spread the love to many people, but I'm limited to five, so here are the friends I'm bestowing the Happy 101 Award to:

Donna, the fantastic writer of Donna's Blog

Debbie, spreading the word about Ainu culture through Project Uepeker

Phyl, writer, book reviewer and cat lover, of Bookishgal

Jem, poet and writer, of http://jemfyr.wordpress.com/

Uh, oh! Randomities Won the Sweetest Award!

The lovely Anne Tyler Lord, from the wonderfully helpful Don't Fence Me In, sent me this sweet award. Thanks so much Anne, you're a sweetheart!

Err, there's so much "sweet" in this post that I suddenly have an urge to eat something... guess what? Sweet! Hey, do you have a chocolate to spare? lol

Right, I'm supposed to tell you ten things about myself upon acceptance of the award. But since I already babble a lot about myself in most posts, may I refer you to this post, in which I'm a bald faced (but ineffective) liar, and this other one where I tell you some truths about myself you might find amusing?

Finally, I'd like to pass this award to the other Mari-girl Marisa Birns, from the entertaining Out of Order Alice. She's a doll! You'll understand why if you check out her delightful comments on every blog she visits. No wonder Marisa is one of the Randomities' best pals. (see widget on the side bar ;)

Ah, yes, if you don't understand the Mari-girl thing, pop on twitter, chat with us, and we'll explain who owns who, and what the heck I'm talking about, heh. ;P

Uh, oh! Randomities Won Another Blog Award!

There are people who are used to winning blog awards.

See the creator of this cool one, Lesa Holstine, from the Lesa's Book Critiques, and Jemi Fraser, from the (rightly so) popular Just Jemi, who passed it on to me. Thanks Jemi! :D

I'm not used to it, (yet? heh) so I'm totally *doing crazy dance*. Since you can't actually see me, I'm not blushing, no sir!

So, I'm supposed to tell you five outrageous lies and one outrageous truth about myself. Let's see...
  1. I hate dogs. They're ugly, smelly, and not friendly at all!
  2. I'm normal; I like normal.
  3. I was once married to a Chinese man who made me tie my feet in order not to sell me away. We split up because my feet are too big and I couldn't bare the pain. He didn't get to sell me though, and at least I got to visit China!
  4. When I was a a drooling teenager, I chocked with my food and got rescued by Johnny Depp. He even kissed me, but I'm not telling where!
  5. I look way younger than I am; probably because I'm still an obnoxious brat.
  6. I have more than 30 books published under a pen name because I'm too shy to make shameless self promotion. I'm also astonishingly rich, but I won't share a single penny with anyone; not even for good causes.
Now to the fun part: I'm passing on the Liar, ops, Creative Writer Award to Peter H. Fogdal, form the hilarious Danish Accent. Hey Peter, you're gonna have to come to Italy to get your award! heh

Psst! Don't miss his first novel translated to English.

Edited to add:

Holly mole, I must be a big fat liar indeed! The sweet Anne Tyler Lord, from the great Don't Fence Me In, has just sent away another Creative Writer Blog Award. Thanks so much Anne! :D

I know that as a writer I should be able to play with words at will, but I'm too stunned. So I'll jump straight to the fun part, and nominate the super cool Angie Capozello, from the fun Techtigger's Soapbox.

Also, you'll want to check out her serial fiction project The Penny Dreadful. I love it!

And I could never miss sending fun things to Kristi Thompson, from the humorous How Did You Get There, which has just been through a major aesthetic change that you must check out. (The content is even better, of course. ;)

Finally, since I've got two of the same award (not that I'm complaining! heh) you might want a double dose of lying? If yes, please tell me so and I'll be pleased to comply. ;)

On the other hand, if you think I'm deadly boring go ahead and visit the people mentioned up there. You won't regret it!
